Note: This product includes the PCB with SMD components presoldered. You also need a minimum of a socket and pinheaders for some fun self-soldering.
It programs W27C512 EEPROMs, which need 14V for erasure and 12V for programming, and basically any other 24/28/32 pin ROM requiring 5V to 27V. Erasure is electrical, done by the board itself - no UV eraser needed. Note that UV-erasable EPROMs such as the 2716 or 2732 still need a UV lamp to erase; this board programs and reads them, but cannot erase them.
It needs a dev board with a microcontroller, such as an Arduino Uno or a 65uino.
Revision history
- Rev 2 added a voltage divider for the programming voltage on Arduino pin A2 and green LEDs for the address bits, and dropped the jumpers for setting the pin count (transistor drivers handle that instead).
- Rev 2.1 added a fuse on the high voltage regulator and runaway protection in case of overturning the trimpot.
- Rev 2.3 (this version) adds a 2716/2516 jumper and support for the TMS2532.

If you just want to program ROMs without worrying about the details, the third party Firestarter firmware and desktop software is recommended.
Before you power it up
- Do not attach the programmer shield while power is on.
- Do not turn on power before the controller board is programmed with appropriate firmware.
- Do not insert a ROM in the socket until you are ready to write it, and do not leave a ROM in the socket during reset or programming.
