74HC74 — Dual D-type flip-flop
Two independent D-type flip-flops in a 14-pin DIP, each with its own set and reset.
A D flip-flop stores one bit on the rising clock edge. Two of them make a divide-by-four clock divider, a simple state machine, or the handshake latch between two circuits running at different speeds.
