74LS161 — 4-bit synchronous binary counter
A 4-bit binary counter in a 16-pin DIP, with synchronous load and asynchronous clear.
All four outputs change together on the clock edge, so there are none of the decoding glitches a ripple counter produces. Cascade two for an 8-bit count. Note this is the LS (low-power Schottky) family, so it expects a 5V supply.
