74HC590 — 8-bit binary counter with output register
An 8-bit counter with a separate output register and 3-state outputs, in a 16-pin DIP.
The output register is the useful part: the count can be captured and read out while the counter keeps running, so you never read a value mid-carry. Handy for address generation and event counting.
